La Gazette des Comores covers LIFE

In an article published on 16 May, La Gazette des Comores praises LIFE's emergency response for disaster victims on Ngazidja. Working with Ascobef, Fadesim and the Moroni women's centre, we distributed food kits to families in need and building materials to those hit hardest.

What is happening in the Comoros?

The severe weather in April turned thousands of lives upside down. No fewer than 68,835 people were affected, making this one of the worst humanitarian crises the region has seen.

More than 26,000 people were affected on Anjouan alone. Lives lost, families displaced, infrastructure destroyed, homes under water and crops ruined, water tanks contaminated and schools flooded: the toll is heavy and the situation is urgent.

To make matters worse, there is an imminent health risk, as waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid could spread. Cleaning up, disinfecting and supplying safe drinking water are immediate priorities that call for swift, coordinated action.

€2.5 million is needed to fund the Comorian government's multi-sector response plan. International aid is more vital than ever. Every euro given is one more step towards resilience and rebuilding for these shattered communities.

International solidarity is needed now more than ever to overcome this crisis and give a dignified future to those who have lost everything. Every act of kindness counts in this race against time to save lives and rebuild broken communities.

Together, let's help the people of the Comoros get back on their feet!
