Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Decree

MY NIGHT OF DECREE

“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months” (Qur'an, Surah Al-Qadr, 97:3)

The Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr) is a blessed night marking the revelation of the first verse of the Qur'an in Islam.
This night holds unrivalled spiritual value: good deeds done on Laylat al-Qadr are rewarded as if they had been done for more than 83 years!
The Night of Decree falls on one of the odd nights of the last 10 days of the blessed month of Ramadan. Traditionally, it is most hoped for on the 27th night.
For this blessed month of Ramadan 2026, Laylat al-Qadr is expected on the night of Sunday 15 March to Monday 16 March 2026.

LIFE: AN NGO SUPPORTED BY 250,000 DONORS

For more than 15 years, LIFE's €1 = 1 Meal campaign has made it possible to distribute 72 million meals. During Ramadan, the project enables many Muslims in need to eat Iftar, the meal that breaks the fast. Families, even whole villages, can also celebrate the end of this sacred time with dignity and joy on Eid al-Fitr. If LIFE can provide food aid on the ground this Ramadan 2026, it is thanks to your trust and generosity ♥️.

Frequently asked questions

How are distributions organised?

Distributions take the form of family parcels given to the families most in need. One parcel feeds a family of 5 or more for a month. All smaller donations are pooled to make up complete parcels.

Who benefits from my donation?

For the €1 = 1 Meal Ramadan campaign, every contribution goes entirely towards distributing meals in regions where most people fast, targeting those most in need. As donations are distributed as family parcels, people who are not fasting, such as children, elderly people or others who are exempt, may also benefit.

How can I follow my donation?

You will regularly receive photo updates by email showing your donations in action on the ground. We also share photos and videos every day on our social media: Facebook Instagram.

How do you get food to each country?

To support the local economy and keep costs down, food is bought locally in bulk.

What's in the parcels?

Parcel contents vary by country. Example for France: onions, potatoes, rice, semolina, tomato purée, flour, salt, oil, tuna, dates, sugar, brick pastry sheets, vermicelli, diced tomatoes, chickpeas, biscuits. Example for Palestine: meat, pasta, tomato purée, beans, tuna, rice, crushed lentils, lentils, flour, sugar, salt, oil, yeast, tea, white beans, packs of cheese, noodles, powdered milk. Example for Togo: rice, oil, sugar, tea, salt, pasta, maize.

Can I donate securely?

Rest assured, you can donate in complete security.

Our website is 100% secure, and we take all reasonable measures to protect the confidentiality of your data.

Your donation is collected through platforms that specialise in, and are experienced at, providing technical support to charities (GoCardless, PayPal and Stripe).
All bank details used to process payments are encrypted (SSL protocol). They are never stored on our IT systems.

To check that your payment details are protected when you donate, look for the padlock 🔒 in your browser bar.

Can I fund meals for the same person or for different people?

Here's how this campaign works: we put together family parcels for a family of about 5 people, containing 150 meals and 150 breakfasts.

So we cannot guarantee that your donation will feed 30 different people. However, we can assure you that a €30 donation will indeed provide 30 different meals!

Will I receive a tax receipt?

You will receive an annual tax receipt early next year, allowing you to deduct 66% of your donation from your income tax, up to 20% of your taxable income. So a €100 donation actually costs you just €34.

Can I trust you?

LIFE is a non-profit association under the French law of 1901, registered under no. 51447004600046 with NAF code 8899B.

Our accounts are certified every year by a sworn statutory auditor, and our annual activity and financial reports are available here.

How much does a meal cost for Fidya and Kaffara?

The cost of a meal for Fidya or Kaffara depends on local guidance and the average price of a meal in your area. It is generally estimated at €9 per meal. This amount feeds one person in need, in line with the teachings of Islam. We encourage you to check with your mosque or a recognised organisation for precise estimates suited to your situation.

When does Ramadan 2026 begin?

Ramadan 2026 is expected to begin on Wednesday 18 February 2026, according to the official announcement by the Grand Mosque of Paris after sighting of the crescent moon on the Night of Doubt, scheduled for Tuesday 17 February.

What is the deadline for paying Zakat al-Fitr?

Zakat al-Fitr must be paid before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, which marks the end of Ramadan. For Ramadan 2025, the Eid prayer is expected to take place on Friday 20 March 2026, subject to moon sighting. We recommend paying it in the last days of Ramadan, so that your contribution reaches those in need in time to celebrate Eid with dignity.
