A threatening tropical storm formed over the Comoros during the night of Tuesday 30 April to Wednesday 1 May 2024.
Heavy rainfall caused devastating floods that claimed several lives, including children swept away by the waters in Anjouan.
Comorian media are reporting mass evacuations in several areas across all three islands of the archipelago.
The damage to property is considerable, deepening the distress of the communities affected.
Moderate tropical storm Hidaya continues to threaten the Comoros, and Météo France forecasts more heavy rain in the coming days.
