Eid al-Adha 2026: how to share your sacrifice with people in need

Eid al-Adha is not just a family celebration. From its very beginnings, it has carried a spirit of solidarity with those who have the least: it is written into the rite itself. The third of the sacrificial meat set aside for people in need is no mere detail — it is a moral obligation, a natural step from faith into concrete action.
In 2026, with humanitarian crises reaching record levels, this dimension takes on particular significance. This guide explains how your sacrifice can make a real difference to a family on the other side of the world.
Why Eid al-Adha is, at its heart, a festival of solidarity
The Qur'an puts it plainly: "Neither their flesh nor their blood reaches Allah, but what reaches Him from you is piety." (Surah Al-Hajj, 22:37). This verse says something essential: what matters in the sacrifice is not the act itself, but the intention behind it and the good it brings to others.
Dividing the meat into three thirds puts this principle into practice: one third for your family, one third for neighbours and loved ones, one third for people in need. This structure is part of the Prophetic tradition, not an optional extra.
An Islamic saying sums up this spirit: "Of all the mutton, only what is given away truly benefits you: what you eat is swallowed, what you give is what profits."
In practice
What this means in real terms: for millions of families living in conflict zones or extreme poverty, Eid al-Adha is the only time of year they eat meat. Not because they choose not to, but because they cannot afford it. Your sacrifice, distributed locally, gives them not only a meal but the dignity of celebrating Eid like everyone else.
The humanitarian reality in 2026: why your sacrifice matters
Humanitarian crises in 2026 have reached unprecedented levels. The areas where LIFE distributes Eid al-Adha sacrifices are among the hardest hit in the world.
In Palestine: in Gaza, families are surviving on less than one meal a day. According to OCHA (March 2026), 46% of essential medicines are out of stock. Meat is a luxury no one can afford. For these families, your sacrifice is a tangible sign that the world has not forgotten them.
In Sudan: according to OCHA (January 2026), more than 21 million people are facing acute food insecurity. Famine struck several areas in 2025. The meat distributed at Eid is often the only protein displaced families receive all year.
In Mali: according to OCHA's 2026 Humanitarian Response Plan (5 February 2026), 5.1 million people need humanitarian aid. Internally displaced people number 415,000, 58% of them children.
Important
One fact says it all: for many families receiving LIFE's sacrifice distributions, Eid al-Adha is the only time in the year they eat meat. Every sacrifice distributed is far more than a meal: it is a moment of dignity, of shared celebration, of belonging to a community that has not abandoned them.

How LIFE distributes your sacrifice
LIFE has developed a rigorous process to make sure your sacrifice reaches the right people, in the best possible conditions, in full compliance with Islamic rules and humanitarian standards.
Selecting the animals
LIFE sources animals directly from local farmers in the recipient countries. Each animal is chosen according to Islamic criteria: an eligible species, the required age, good health and no disqualifying defects. Buying locally has a double benefit: the meat is guaranteed fresh, and the purchase supports the local economy.
A sacrifice carried out properly
The sacrifice is carried out in keeping with Islamic rules: the Basmala is recited, and hygiene meets local standards. LIFE ensures every sacrifice takes place within the prescribed days, between 10 and 12 Dhul Hijjah (27 to 30 May 2026).
Immediate distribution
The meat is distributed to families within hours of the sacrifice, fresh and in sufficient quantity for a full family meal. LIFE's teams identify the most vulnerable families in advance: internally displaced people, single-parent families, widows with children and isolated elderly people.
GPS tracking for donors
LIFE sends every donor GPS tracking of their sacrifice by email. You receive confirmation that your Qurbani has been carried out, with the precise location of the distribution. It is a rare practice in the sector, and reflects the level of transparency LIFE holds itself to. To understand why this transparency is so fundamental, our article NGO transparency: how to check how your donations are used gives you all the tools.

In which countries is LIFE distributing sacrifices in 2026?
| Country | Humanitarian situation | Why your sacrifice makes a difference there |
|---|---|---|
| Palestine (Gaza) | Severe food crisis, limited access | Meat out of reach for almost every family |
| Sudan | 21 million facing food insecurity | Famine in several areas, mass displacement |
| Mali | 5.1 million in need | 415,000 displaced, 58% of them children |
| Other countries | Depending on needs at the time of Eid | LIFE adapts to current emergencies |

Can I contribute even if I can't fund a whole sacrifice?
Yes. LIFE offers open donations for anyone who wants to join the Eid al-Adha solidarity effort without funding a full sacrifice. These contributions are pooled to fund meat distributions or other food aid programmes.
Every contribution counts. For cattle, LIFE offers shares that let several donors split the cost of one animal, in line with the 7-share rule. For everything you need to know about the rules of sacrifice and the options available, our article Qurbani 2026: sacrifice rules, prices and how to give by proxy answers all your questions.

Give my sacrifice →Frequently asked questions
Why offer your sacrifice abroad rather than in France?
Offering your sacrifice in a country facing a humanitarian crisis maximises its impact. In France, the sacrificial meat stays in a context where no one goes without food. Distributed in Palestine, Sudan or Mali, that same meat is sometimes the only protein-rich meal of the year for a whole family. It is the very spirit of the third set aside for people in need, amplified on a global scale.
Is the sacrifice carried out by LIFE truly compliant with Islamic rules?
Yes. LIFE selects animals that meet Islamic criteria (species, age, health), has the Basmala recited at the moment of sacrifice, respects the prescribed timeframe (10 to 12 Dhul Hijjah), and distributes the meat immediately afterwards. The GPS tracking sent to the donor confirms the act has been carried out.
How does LIFE choose the recipient families?
LIFE's teams and their local partners identify the most vulnerable families in the areas where they work in advance: internally displaced people, single-parent families, widows with children and isolated elderly people. Distribution is organised to reach those most in need within hours of the sacrifice.
Can I choose the country that receives my sacrifice?
Yes. LIFE offers several recipient countries among the areas where it works. You can choose a specific country or let LIFE decide based on the most urgent needs at the time of Eid. LIFE's donor relations team can help you choose.
I can't fund a whole sacrifice. Can I still take part?
Yes. LIFE accepts open donations, which are pooled to fund meat distributions. For cattle, LIFE offers shares allowing 7 people to split the cost of one animal, in line with the Islamic rule. Every contribution, whatever the amount, is useful and welcome.
