A devastating earthquake strikes Morocco, and LIFE launches an emergency response

A devastating earthquake struck the Marrakech region of Morocco. According to the provisional toll, it killed more than 3000 people and left thousands more injured. The disaster hit during the night of Friday 8 to Saturday 9 September. It was felt in many towns and cities across the country, and residents panicked.

In the face of this unprecedented, historic tragedy, many humanitarian organisations answered the emergency appeal. Our NGO, LIFE, was among them.

The news channel BFM TV highlighted our NGO's work on the ground in its programme "L'aprem info", presented by Pauline Simonet. Our team described the harsh conditions survivors are living in, and how much work remains to be done to deal with this disaster.

In the interview with BFM TV, our president Tarek El Kahodi said: "At LIFE, we've released nearly €500,000 in emergency aid and made a commitment to deliver food, as well as warm clothes, blankets and equipment for the coming winter." He added: "By setting up this crisis unit here in Marrakech, we plan to stay for several months, and we're asking people to go to the LIFE website to donate."

Our team is fully committed to providing emergency aid to the people affected by this destructive earthquake. Working with the local authorities, our NGO continues to coordinate its efforts to respond to this major crisis and bring vital help to the victims.
