Why trust LIFE with your donations for access to water?

Building a well changes the lives of entire communities by giving them lasting access to clean drinking water. At LIFE, every well we build reaches down to the water table or to reliable underground water sources, sometimes several metres deep depending on the soil and the needs of the country, whether in Africa or Asia. Every LIFE well is carefully planned: choosing the type of structure, launching and carrying out the works, installing pumps and managing water extraction, so that as many people as possible get good-quality water.

Why choose LIFE for your well projects

With more than 15 years of expertise, our organisation is committed to providing lasting solutions for people in need.

High-impact community projects

Unlike family wells, which serve only 5-7 people, our water projects are designed for whole communities. Each LIFE well or borehole serves anywhere from 100 to 10,000 people, making your donation go as far as possible. Our installations are placed in public spaces, so every member of the local community has fair access. After an in-depth study of local needs, we prioritise areas where getting clean drinking water is a real daily struggle. 📊

Water that is genuinely safe to drink

Not all wells are equal. Some organisations offer low-cost wells (around €300), but these generally don't guarantee that the water is drinkable, so it ends up used only for household chores. At LIFE, we always carry out bacteriological and physicochemical testing. If the results aren't satisfactory, we install suitable filtration systems wherever possible to make sure the water is safe to drink. If that isn't possible, the borehole is declared non-compliant and is not used. 🚰

Premium materials built to last

Our engineers carefully select every component used in our projects. We invest in top-quality materials that stand up to harsh climates and heavy use, so your water project lasts for years to come. 💧

Empowerment at the heart of our approach

Beyond the infrastructure, we set up local water management committees. These groups of villagers, trained by our teams, look after the upkeep and maintenance of the installations. This all-round approach helps the community take ownership of the project and ensures it lasts. Your donation creates a lasting source of clean water and self-reliance for an entire community.

How LIFE builds a well

Finding reliable water sources

Before any work begins, our teams pinpoint the location of the groundwater. Rather than relying on guesswork, we use proven methods: checking existing boreholes within a 30-metre radius (a reliable sign that groundwater is present) and calling on qualified water diviners or geophysicists. This first phase is crucial to the project's viability and avoids unsuccessful drilling.

Drilling: two techniques suited to the ground

Depending on the type of soil, we use different drilling methods:

  1. For standard soils: small-scale electric or manual drilling rigs
  2. For hard or rocky ground: drilling trucks

Our boreholes usually reach depths of 30 to 50 metres, ensuring access to water even during droughts. 🏜️

Systematic drinking-water testing

Once we reach water, we carry out two complementary types of testing:

  • Bacteriological testing: detecting harmful micro-organisms
  • Physicochemical testing: assessing mineral and chemical properties

If the water doesn't meet drinking-water standards, we install, wherever possible, a suitable filtration system designed by our specialist engineers.

Equipping the borehole for a lasting solution

The final step is to equip the borehole according to the community's needs. There are several options:

  • Hand pump: sturdy and easy to maintain. It serves up to 300 people
  • Mini Tower: a mid-sized system for medium-sized villages. Up to 800 people can benefit.
  • Water tower: for larger communities, helping up to 3,000 people.
  • Mini water supply network: a distribution network for wider areas, benefiting 10,000 people.

Throughout the process, we involve local communities in the construction and set up water management committees to keep the project self-sufficient and sustainable. A LIFE borehole is a community project built to last and to transform lives. 🧡

Why Sadaqa Jariya matters in well projects

Sadaqa Jariya (ongoing charity) is a fundamental concept in Islam: a gift whose rewards continue to benefit the Lifechanger even after death. Among all forms of Sadaqa Jariya, building a well holds a central place, because it provides a vital resource to whole communities for generations.

The spirituality of water as an everlasting gift

In Muslim tradition, water is seen as a precious divine gift, a blessing sent down from the sky to sustain human life and all of creation. This spiritual dimension is why so many people choose LIFE to make this act of generosity a reality. Our approach fully respects the principles of Sadaqa Jariya by ensuring that every well we build benefits people in need for the long term. Giving water is one of the finest forms of charity, and its rewards endure even after the Lifechanger has passed away.

A superior technical approach for lasting benefits

What sets LIFE apart from other organisations is our commitment to quality and sustainability. Unlike the low-cost wells offered by some organisations, our boreholes are designed to provide water that is genuinely safe to drink, tested and treated where necessary. Our wells are installed in public spaces and designed to benefit large numbers of people, between 100 and 10,000, far beyond just a few families. This approach ensures your Sadaqa Jariya reaches as many people as possible.

A Sadaqa Jariya story with LIFE

"I've supported Life for a long time, because I feel the whole team pulls in the same direction for those most in need. The charity's projects are essential to improving the quality of life of people in hardship, whether through wells, personal support or help for different countries. Helping one another matters so much these days. Let's not forget it: it's a duty." Nouredine, Lifechanger

The lasting impact of LIFE's wells

Tangible results for people's health

Your support changes lives all over the world. Access to water in these different countries helps curb most waterborne diseases, such as diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid, in the villages concerned. 🌍 These diseases, often caused by drinking contaminated water, are responsible for thousands of deaths every year, especially among children.

"This small monthly donation now feels so concrete and so worthwhile." Abdessamad, Lifechanger

Education unlocked by access to water

In most of the countries where LIFE has built wells, children's access to school has changed. They no longer spend several hours a day fetching water. Teachers also report that pupils concentrate better, arriving in class less tired and better hydrated. Absences due to waterborne diseases have also fallen considerably.

Economic empowerment through water

LIFE's engineers select top-quality materials suited to local conditions. That's why our wells, although they represent a bigger investment, last far longer than low-end alternatives.

Solidarity for lasting access to clean water

Choosing LIFE for your water donations means choosing a lasting, ethical and high-impact commitment. Every well built by LIFE makes a real difference to the lives of hundreds of people, while guaranteeing the quality and longevity of their access to clean drinking water. ⛲ Your contribution becomes a true Sadaqa Jariya, whose rewards carry on from generation to generation. Together, let's keep building a future where water, the source of life, is no longer a privilege but a right within everyone's reach. ✨
