Success at school: a springboard to a better future

Education is a fundamental right. Every child should be able to learn. After all, don't they say the future is shaped in the classroom?
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world," said Nelson Mandela, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Yet even today, millions of children around the world are not in school. They don't get the chance of a good-quality education. Success at school... These words mean far more than marks and certificates. Education brings many benefits. It plays a vital part in our personal development, and in building our societies too.

Overcoming inequality
Success at school plays a vital part in tackling inequality, giving everyone, whatever their social background or economic status, an equal chance to develop and succeed.
Success at school guarantees fair access to education for everyone. It is a powerful lever that can break the chains of socio-economic disparity which all too often stand in the way of education. It paves the way to equal opportunities, giving everyone the chance to develop their skills and talents.
Success at school is also a catalyst for social mobility. By helping people gain knowledge, skills and qualifications, education opens the door to economic and career opportunities. People from disadvantaged backgrounds can escape the cycle of poverty and move up in society. Success at school therefore becomes a way to break inequality between generations, offering better prospects for the future.
Better health
A good education opens the way to better career and economic opportunities. People who do well at school tend to find better-paid, more stable jobs, which can give them access to better-quality healthcare and adequate medical cover. Education programmes often include lessons on health and hygiene, so pupils can learn the basics of nutrition, physical exercise, disease prevention and other important aspects of health. This knowledge can help them make better lifestyle choices and adopt healthier habits.
Finally, education builds the self-esteem and self-confidence that children will need throughout their lives. Pupils who do well at school are often recognised and valued by their peers and teachers. This boosts their confidence and leaves them better equipped for the future.
Success at school: a way out of poverty
Success at school can play an important part in escaping poverty, although many complex factors shape this process. According to UNICEF, nearly 1 billion children around the world suffer from multidimensional poverty. These children are the adults of tomorrow, and we owe it to them to make sure they can succeed at school.
A good-quality education opens up a wider range of career opportunities. People who do well at school often have better qualifications, which improves their chances of finding a stable, well-paid job. They have access to more promising careers and can aim for positions with better pay and prospects. People with a solid education tend to earn more over the course of their careers. Better prepared for the job market, they are able to command higher salaries.
So education is not just about building up knowledge: it is a precious tool for climbing the socio-economic ladder towards a more prosperous life.
Success at school: knowing your rights
Education undeniably makes us more aware, better-informed citizens who know our rights. It is a bulwark against injustice, arming us with the knowledge we need to stand up to every form of oppression. Through education, we gain the tools to defend our rights, resist injustice and work actively towards a society that reflects the ideals of justice and equality.
Education doesn't just make us capable individuals; it makes us responsible citizens too.
Education for all is our priority

So that every child can get a good-quality education and build their future, we hand out school kits. Each kit contains a school bag, a pencil case, exercise books, pens, felt-tip pens, a ruler, a pencil sharpener, a rubber and more... Everything they need for a whole school year! We also set up canteens in schools, giving every child full, balanced meals. Now children come to school knowing they will be fed and can concentrate fully in class. For most of them, this meal is even their only source of nutrition each day.
Success at school brings a wealth of benefits that reach far beyond the classroom. By promoting equal opportunities, improving health, offering a way out of poverty and helping people know their rights, education plays a vital part in both individual and collective development.
Investing in education is a priority for anyone who wants to build a fairer, more prosperous and sustainable future. By giving everyone the chance to succeed at school, we are building a better world for all.
