It is a conscious investment in the future: a charitable work whose benefits unfold over time, like a ripple of goodness that carries on from one generation to the next.

The many dimensions of Sadaqa Jariya

Access to water

1. Access to water: for millions of people around the world, clean drinking water is a luxury. Sadaqa Jariya often takes the form of projects that provide access to this source of life. Every drop is precious and vital to communities, quenching thirst today and for generations to come.

Since 2009, LIFE has been working to secure access to clean drinking water for all. Thanks to ongoing charity, we are able to fund the building of wells for communities in need. These essential structures provide invaluable access to safe water, transforming the health and quality of life of people in the regions where we work. Not only do they ensure a steady supply of drinking water; they also lighten the load on women and children, who once spent long hours carrying water from distant sources. With water close at hand, these communities can focus on other aspects of their development.

Reforestation

2. Reforestation: Sadaqa Jariya projects often extend to protecting the environment through reforestation. Reforestation restores an ecosystem that keeps on thriving and delivering lasting benefits. Every tree planted provides resources and food for communities for as long as it lives, while helping in the fight against global warming.

In Senegal, we started a school garden project. The pupils proudly showed us how wonderfully the garden had flourished. The fruit and vegetables these trees produce enrich the meals in the school canteen, giving the children healthy food so they can grow up strong and happy.

In Tambacounda, Senegal, we planted trees, strengthening biodiversity and bringing new hope for a healthier environment.

Education

3. Education:

Giving children access to a good education means letting them chart their own path towards a bright future. Education is the key that opens the doors of opportunity, and every school we build is an investment in human potential. Classrooms built through Sadaqa Jariya are not just bricks and mortar, but sanctuaries of knowledge. Every child who walks through those doors steps into a transformed future. Education thus becomes a legacy that transcends time, opening doors for curious minds and shaping destinies.

Following the earthquakes in Morocco, particularly in the Marrakech region, an urgent response was launched to rebuild and support the affected communities. In an effort to restore some normality to people's lives, schools were built in remote villages that had been badly hit. These new educational facilities are designed to offer local young people a safe haven, providing a space for learning and resilience. This initiative reflects a commitment to rebuilding and revitalising the affected areas, highlighting the importance of education in rebuilding society and building a bright future.

Building decent housing

4. Building decent housing: at LIFE, Sadaqa Jariya also goes into building decent homes. Each house built becomes far more than a physical shelter; it brings stability and dignity to whole families. These homes become safe havens and anchors in daily life, offering an environment where families can flourish.

In Mali, ranked among the poorest countries in the world, people are suffering the effects of global warming. Homes are ill-suited: they offer poor thermal and sound comfort, are expensive, deteriorate quickly and have a high carbon footprint. In the Ségou region, we were able to build homes adapted to the realities of climate change and give families in need a safe, comfortable roof over their heads.
