RFI tells the story of a LIFE vegetable garden like no other

For a new episode of her programme « Un jour au village » on RFI, journalist Kpenahi Traoré took her microphones to Tambacounda, in eastern Senegal. There she captures daily life in two villages that come together every day around a project supported by LIFE: a shared vegetable garden. More than a plot of farmland, it has become a symbol of solidarity, dialogue and empowerment.
A project transforming life in rural communities
In Djinkoré Manfing and Sinthiou Djéka, the women get up every morning to water, tend and harvest together. This shared work grows far more than vegetables: it nurtures trust and unity between two neighbouring villages.
RFI's report highlights the real impact of LIFE's work in Senegal:
- giving communities the tools to strengthen their food security,
- creating spaces for meeting and reconciliation,
- putting women at the heart of local development,
- promoting sustainable farming practices suited to the Sahelian climate.
An inspiring model for the whole region
This report shows how a simple vegetable garden can become a tool for peace, development and empowerment. This local initiative perfectly illustrates LIFE's mission: working alongside local communities to build lasting, fair solutions rooted in solidarity.
LIFE: our NGO in the spotlight on RFI
This is not the first time RFI has shone a light on LIFE's work. In May 2025, « Un jour au village » followed young Senegalese people from Sine-Saloum taking part in an innovative training programme combining hospitality and agroecology.
With this new episode on Tambacounda, RFI confirms the reach of LIFE's projects and the relevance of its solutions to the country's social and environmental challenges.
