Master Environnement features LIFE

In “The importance of reforestation in a climate emergency”, Master Environnement shows how deforestation is making climate change worse. By releasing huge quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere, it accounts for 12% of global greenhouse gas emissions, which speeds up global warming. The article presents reforestation as a key way to counter these effects, because new trees capture carbon from the atmosphere and help to stabilise the global climate.
For reforestation projects to succeed, though, certain rules need to be followed. For example, it is important to choose suitable tree species and, of course, to protect existing forests in the first place, since they already play an essential role in storing carbon.
The article highlights the key role our NGO, LIFE, plays in this work and stresses how much our projects contribute to these efforts.

Through our SAPOUSSE campaign, we focus on reforestation projects that capture carbon and also strengthen biodiversity and make ecosystems more resilient. Our approach draws on local knowledge and respects the rights of indigenous peoples, which helps our projects last. The article also points out that we favour native tree species to avoid single-species plantations, which can be vulnerable to disease and do less for the ecosystem.
Master Environnement also covers other reforestation initiatives around the world, such as the UN-backed “One Trillion Trees” campaign.
Reforestation is a powerful tool in the fight against climate change, but it must be well planned and form part of a wider strategy for managing natural resources sustainably. Restoring forests is crucial to meeting global climate targets, but it must go hand in hand with cutting greenhouse gas emissions and doing more to protect existing ecosystems.
