LIFE responds to the IPCC report: it's not too late to act!

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has published its latest report. It sets out the risks of global warming and offers solutions for cutting greenhouse gas emissions. The IPCC report could not be clearer: humanity has less than three years to turn the curve of greenhouse gas emissions around if it wants to keep the world liveable. The climate emergency is real. Time is running out, but it's not too late to act!

Alarming conclusions
In short, the latest IPCC report finds that:
- Global warming affects the whole world.
- Half of the world's population, between 3.3 and 3.6 billion people, is suffering from climate change.
- It is human activities, such as industrial production, that have caused global warming.
- Antarctic ice is melting at a rapid rate, driving up sea levels.
- The Amazon rainforest, known as a major carbon sink, is finding it harder and harder to store CO2. Ravaged by massive deforestation, it could gradually turn into savannah.
The priority for each and every one of us must be this: global warming absolutely has to be kept below 1.5°C, as agreed under the Paris Agreement in 2015.
Without urgently stronger climate policies, the world is heading for warming that could reach 3.2°C by the end of the century.
LIFE in action on the ground
MORE AND MORE DROUGHT
Climate change is attacking the water cycle and throwing it off balance. On our humanitarian missions, whether developing water and sanitation projects, such as building wells, or distributing meals through our 1€=1MEAL campaign, we often travel to arid regions such as Madagascar and Kenya. In these countries, the evidence is undeniable. The effects of global warming are plain to see. Droughts are ever more frequent and food crises ever more severe.

A LOOMING GLOBAL FOOD CRISIS
As the years go by, soils will be hit harder and harder by global warming. As a result, food prices will rise, and so will food insecurity. While floods delay crops, droughts dry out fields and scorch plantations. Local communities are left without food or income.
At LIFE, through our Sapousse campaign, we fight deforestation every day, by restoring degraded forests and helping local communities make a living from farming. On top of this, to tackle the food crisis, we distribute food parcels and hot meals all year round in around twenty countries, bringing joy and a little comfort to those who need it most.
Together, let's fight global warming!
