Genocide in Gaza: LIFE launches an emergency appeal on Radio Orient

La humanitarian situation in Gaza reached an unprecedented critical level. According to Imad Bentayeb, field coordinator at LIFE, interviewed on June 27 on the program Wide Angle on Radio Orient, vital needs are at a breaking point, with nearly 2 million people suffering from malnutrition and hundreds of thousands of children seriously affected.
” The situation is getting worse by the day. We are facing an unprecedented humanitarian and food crisis. Families that had money yesterday can't find anything to eat today.”, alerts Imad Bentayeb.
Humanitarian aid under high tension
Present for more than ten years in gaza, LIFE acts in partnership with the local association Al Amal. The NGO had to adapt its methods in the face of the impossibility of transporting humanitarian convoys from abroad, due to blockages and security risks. LIFE now sources itself directly from local suppliers in Gaza, making it possible to distribute hot meals to 500 families every day in two camps in the northern Gaza Strip. ” Without these distributions, thousands of people would not be able to eat. Our teams are taking huge risks, but they refuse to stop, because help is vital ”, testifies Imad.

Emergency and development programs
LIFE is not limited to food aid. The NGO has opened an emergency medical center, which is currently closed for security reasons, but which is scheduled to reopen very soon, and plans to open a bakery to provide free bread. A sponsorship program for 500 orphans is also due to start next September. For access to water, LIFE distributes tankers in neighborhoods and camps for displaced persons, as it is unable to build sustainable infrastructures that are too expensive and exposed to bombardments. Psychological support units for children, the first victims of the war, have also been set up in partnership with Al Amal.
A call for international solidarity
Faced with this humanitarian disaster, LIFE is sounding the alarm and calling for the mobilization of all to support its emergency and development programs. The NGO insists on the importance of donations and media relays to continue saving lives and supporting populations in highly vulnerable situations in Gaza and the Palestinian territories.
