RFI highlights LIFE's action in Senegal

As part of her iconic program “A day in the village” broadcast on RFI, journalist Kpenahi Traoré sets up her microphones in Senegal. In this first episode of the series, broadcast on May 17, 2025, it takes us to the heart of Sine-Saloum, in western Senegal, to meet young people involved in training that combines tourism and agroecology.
Training to build a sustainable future
In the heart of Sine-Saloum, a territory marked by a high rate of youth unemployment, the Coeur Yakaar center acts against precariousness by offering vocational training in agroecology. The objective? Offer future prospects to young people, in their own village, without having to migrate to big cities.
Local transformation at the service of the economy
The products grown at the center are transformed directly on site by the students into food products such as jams, peanut powder or cosmetic products such as solid and liquid soaps, oils. They are then sold in the center's organic store, or distributed locally, with a strong ambition: to develop a sustainable and inclusive local economy, especially for young women.
Why is this series important?
In a world where food, climate and social crises are multiplying, these reports offer valuable insight into local and sustainable solutions led by communities themselves, with the support of partners such as LIFE.
Kpenahi Traoré gives a voice to those who experience these transformations on a daily basis.
