Humanitarian crisis in the DRC: 100 displaced families supported

In a global context marked by numerous humanitarian challenges, Democratic Republic of Congo is characterized by a deep crisis that requires an urgent and united mobilization to help populations in highly vulnerable situations.

One of the deadliest conflicts

For several decades, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in particular the South Kivu region, has been crossing a humanitarian crisis of unprecedented scale.

This conflict, considered among The deadliest since the Second World War, has caused the deaths of over 6 million people, and the forced displacement of over 1.4 million people in the urban peripheries, often without resources or support. The violence, fuelled by a struggle for resources and territorial conquest, is fuelling a continuous cycle of barbarity, leaving behind destroyed villages and populations in a state of great distress.

Their daily life is marked by fear, the poverty And the lack of access to basic needs: food, access to drinking water, health. The situation is all the more critical because access to drinking water, an essential source of life, is being reduced every day, increasing the vulnerability of populations that are already deeply fragile.

A vital humanitarian intervention

It is in this difficult context that LIFE, thanks to your generosity, has led In July 2025 a emergency aid operation in Bukavu, thus bringing a breath of hope to 100 displaced families, or nearly 500 people.

Faced with the extreme precariousness in which these families live, often hosted in overcrowded conditions or improvised shelters, LIFE, in collaboration with a trusted local partner, organized a food and material distribution to bring some joy and comfort. In an environment where access to food and essential goods is more than restricted, this aid represented much more than just distribution: it gave back dignity, strength and hope to families.

Based on a careful selection with the participation of IDP committees, mediators and local representatives, the action targeted families in highly vulnerable situations and without any other form of humanitarian support.

Each family received a complete package consisting of basic necessities:

  • 1 25kg bag of rice,
  • 1 25kg bag of cornmeal,
  • 1 5L oil can,
  • 1 12.5kg bag of beans,
  • 1 pack of salt,
  • as well as a blanket to face cold nights.

This distribution took place in strict compliance with Principle of non-discrimination, thus guaranteeing a equitable assistance, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender or origin. This operation also illustrates the ability of our local partners to become local humanitarian actors, capable of acting quickly.
