Beur FM: LIFE alerts on the humanitarian emergency in Gaza

On May 28, 2025, Beur FM gave the floor to Imad Bentayeb, field coordinator at LIFE, as part of its Morning. Invited by journalist Kim, he reviewed the dramatic situation in Gaza and on LIFE's commitment, despite the risks and logistical difficulties.

A critical humanitarian situation in Gaza

For several months, gaza is going through an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. According to Imad Bentayeb, “90 to 95% of the population is food insecure.” The blockade, bombardments and the total disorganization of basic structures make access to humanitarian aid extremely difficult.

“People are not only dying because of bombs, they are also dying of hunger, of lack of medicines,” he laments.

LIFE: concrete and continuous actions on the ground

LIFE has been operating in Gaza for over ten years, thanks to a solid network of local partners. “They are the ones who buy essential products such as flour, oil, sugar... directly on site... and then redistribute them”, explains Imad Bentayeb. Despite the explosion in prices, for example, the bag of flour having increased from 25 to nearly 900 dollars, LIFE continues to distribute food packages and hot meals, in particular through its program of 500 family meals a day.

Volunteers on the front line, despite the dangers

Intervention in Gaza is not without danger. LIFE recently lost two volunteers, Abdullah and Mouaouia, who were killed while distributing humanitarian aid during Ramadan. “When we heard the news, we asked our teams precisely to put a stop to the distributions and to do that later. And, they wanted to continue the distributions the next day because they told us that if we ever stopped the distributions, 500 families would stop eating the next day,” Imad confides with emotion. Every donation counts, thus making it possible to buy, on site, basic necessities for those who have nothing left.
