ACCESS TO DRINKING WATER, A FIGHT FOR LIFE

Imagine that all the inhabitants of a country like France are deprived of easy access to drinking water and that everyone has to walk more than half an hour each to meet their water-related needs. Difficult, isn't it? Yet this is what happens to millions of people around the world who suffer from lack of water. More specifically, 844 million people live without a nearby source of drinking water. And climate change, which has been causing numerous droughts in particular for several decades, is only making the situation of developing countries worse…

ACT AND BRING DRINKING WATER

Thanks to the construction and the drilling of wells, you allow an entire village to access an essential right: water.
– You save future lives from the risk of water-borne diseases and deaths due to the consumption of unsanitary water.
– You ease the difficult daily life of hundreds of women and children who travel dozens of kilometers every day to reach a drinking water supply point.
– You provide water with hygienic quality to hundreds of people every day.

“WHOEVER YOU ARE,
WHATEVER YOU DO, WHEREVER YOU LIVE, WE URGE YOU TO GET INVOLVED AND CONTRIBUTE TO MEETING THIS GREAT CHALLENGE: DRINKING WATER AND SANITATION FOR ALL. »

Mariama, 8 years old - Mahpaban, Cameroon

My pretty well, without you I was thirsty and I was sad, without you the dirty water gave us diseases. My pretty well, with you joy has come to our village, I go to school and I can write you this message. My pretty well, you have changed my life.

Where to act?

In some countries of the world, less than half of the population has access to drinking water. For nearly 10 years, more than 1,500 water projects have seen the light of day thanks to LIFE donors in a dozen countries. But there is still a lot of humanitarian aid to be done to meet the demand for water in developing countries.

Stages of building a well

Once we have received your donation, a dedicated donor relations officer will accompany you throughout the realization of your project. Then, a 4-step humanitarian procedure is initiated!

THE DIAGNOSIS

Our teams also ensure that the population is motivated to participate in the installation of the well and its subsequent maintenance.
This is a decisive phase in the life of a well construction project. It is necessary to understand the real needs of the villagers and carry out a field study, in order to fairly manage the priorities between the different requesting villages. Our teams check the state of the water table and also ensure that the population is motivated to participate in the installation of the water well and its subsequent maintenance.

Our field coordinators take care in person of the follow-up of the construction of the well and communicate regularly on the progress of the project to the members of the head office. The villagers are involved in the works, which considerably increases their commitment to the project. The site is considered closed when the water potability and hygiene tests are validated, the entire work is completed, and the pump is in working order. At the end of the project, you receive a summary booklet of your water project containing: the GPS coordinates of the work, a technical summary and photos of the financed well.

EMPOWERMENT

A Water Management Committee made up of villagers is carefully chosen and then trained by LIFE to ensure the sustainability...
This step is very important because it will ensure that the water point lasts over time. Beneficiaries take ownership of the project and understand that it is their responsibility to maintain it. A Water Management Committee, made up of villagers, is carefully chosen and then trained by LIFE to ensure the sustainability of the well, the proper use and equity in the distribution of water. The Committee sets up a system of financial participation of users (collections, monthly payments, payment by canister, etc.). This covers the maintenance costs of the pump and thus allows management of the well in complete autonomy.

EVALUATIONS

The objective of LIFE is that the structures for access to drinking water that you offer are part of a sustainable development approach.
LIFE's objective is that the structures for access to drinking water that you offer are part of a sustainable development approach. Evaluations carried out by the field coordinators aim to take stock of the takeover of the project by the local populations. A few months later, additional assessments are then carried out by a LIFE auditor in order to measure the quality of the equipment, the proper functioning of the well and the effectiveness of the Water Management Committee.

frequently asked Questions

We will allocate your well in a developing country based on water needs. Following the delivery of the donation, we carry out a diagnosis and your well will be operated on in a country. You will receive by email the name of the country of assignment.

Throughout the process you will be informed of each step by email or telephone. You can contact us at any time through our various channels.

You will be notified as soon as the project is completed. You will receive a bonus booklet with the photos and characteristics of your well in order to keep this memory for life!

With 10 years of experience in the construction of wells, LIFE has established rigorous specifications. Drilling, maintenance, water treatment, training of the water management committee, the choice of the pump and materials contributing to its longevity.

You can make your donation by credit card, PayPal or bank transfer.

Indeed, the cost of carrying out a work differs from one partner to another, from one country to another, or
even sometimes from one region to another.
In a constant process of improving the quality of wells, we ensure that our partners favor materials known for their reliability and durability in the specifications put in place.

One of the main objectives of the NGO LIFE is to act for all without showing discrimination of any kind.

For the sake of fairness, we have therefore decided to propose an average envelope to the donor based on the average price for a quality work in the regions in which LIFE takes action.

The objective in this sense is to award all of our projects exclusively on the criterion of need and not on that of price so that the cost of the finalized work does not influence our generous donors in the choice of their country of allocation.

As a more telling example, if drilling requires funding of €2,650 in an African country compared to €2,300 in an Asian country, the majority of donations will inevitably be concentrated towards Asian countries, thus harming a large number of needy people in Africa. This average envelope therefore allows us to rebalance this point and to show fairness in our various fields of action.

Still by way of example, in the case of this well costing €2,300, the remainder of €200 will be redirected to our “water fund” in order to complete the financing of other wells requiring a larger budget.
